# Introduction

Mago Stage is a presentation and content-control platform for displaying and managing content across one or more screens.

A Mago Stage deployment uses two device roles:

* A **controller** is used to create and manage Stages, add content, connect to receivers, and control presentations.
* A **receiver** displays the content sent from a controller.

Depending on the active license and network configuration, a receiver can run on the same Windows machine as the Mago Stage server, elsewhere on a private network, or at another accessible location.

#### What you can do with Mago Stage

Mago Stage can be used to:

* Create reusable Stages with predefined content and layouts
* Present documents, images, videos, websites, notes, and supported 3D models
* Add content from local storage, Microsoft 365, or Google Drive
* Arrange content across predefined or custom layouts
* Connect to individual receivers or receiver groups
* Control supported content from the controller
* Share a screen using Mago Share
* Use Player or Showroom presentation modes
* Apply branding, signage, and display policies through the Administration Portal
* Manage displays, Remote Agents, licenses, users, tags, and assignments

Available features depend on the controller platform, receiver platform, active license, connected services, and organization configuration.

#### Mago Cloud and on-premises deployments

Mago Stage can connect to:

* **Mago Cloud**, operated and hosted by Mago
* A customer-managed **on-premises Mago Stage environment**

Controllers and receivers must use the same Mago Stage environment. Accounts, Stages, receivers, licenses, and configuration are not transferred automatically between environments.

#### Where to begin

Before installing Mago Stage:

1. Review **Supported platforms**.
2. Confirm the applicable **Controller requirements** or **Receiver requirements**.
3. Review the **Network requirements**.
4. Continue to **Before you begin** in the Mago Stage Client Apps section.

Administrators should also review the **Administration Portal** section before activating receivers, assigning licenses, or configuring organization policies.
